HAPPY THOR’s-DAY! May your mind and thoughts, be as mighty and focused – as THUNDER!

Happy THOR’s DAY everyone!

Welcome Norse god, THOR, honourable warrior, god of thunder, lightning, and god of impermeable strength!

The protector of mankind, the guardian of Asgard!

Son of Odin, son of Jörd or Gaea! Gaea (or EARTH) mated with Odin. Gaea wanted a son that would be as STRONG as Earth herself! So she birthed …. THOR! ROOOOAARR!!!

But before we get into the story of Thor, lets celebrate today’s planet on this Mighty Thursday everyone. Welcome … (drum roll please)….. JUPITER!!!!

The planet for Sagittarius (love you guys!) The planet for expansion, growth, learning from a GLOBAL POINT OF VIEW, welcomer of HIGHER energies, travel, discovery, promoter of Optimism!!! WELCOME JUPITER! WELCOME!

Imagine those qualities, as you dance around this high vibrational Thursday! or —> Jeudi 😉

So how did the god of Thunder, get his mighty hammer, you say? Well, let me tell you a tale as might as Thor himself… now there are many ways it was told. But the story of Sindri and Brokkr, seems consistent.

Right, lets get cracking shall we?!

Okay so one day, Loki, the trickster god, accidentally cut the golden hair of Sif, the wife of Thor. Thor was outraged at this act! As this wasn’t just any ol’ hair, after all, Sif was known for her golden hair.

(GAWD, I just had to below! I assume she was goddess like, who just says: ‘I woke up like this! I woke up like this – Flawless!)

Anyway, Loki begs Thor, to let him go down to the caves of the dwarves – Svartalfheim, (bless you, had to again! Stop it Pam, stop it!) and see if he could fashion a new head of hair for Sif. And Thor agreed!

So down Loki went, into the undergrounds, where he met, Sindri and his brother Brokkr, two dwarfs. Loki taunted them saying they could never make an item more beautiful than those that the Sons of Ivaldi and so the two brothers, accepted his challenge.

Sindri and Brokkr, began working on this object welded and forged out of…well let’s just say many, many … bizarre items. See pic below:

“The Third Gift – an Enormous Hammer” by Elmer Boyd Smith (1902)

As they go about in forging this new, beautiful creation Loki, the trickster that he was, turned himself into a fly… I know right? Out of all things! To distract the brothers from their task.

Anyway, Loki, disguised as a fly, keeps biting one of the brothers, Brokkr. Trying to distract him, from his very carefully and tediously constructed forging of the hammer (aka Mjölnir – meaning THUNDER!)

Every time Sindri comes with more concoctions to be combined with the hammer, he begs his brother – Brokkr, to not stop pumping away at the bellows. To keep a very close eye on the task at hand, as no mistakes were meant to be made. Since it requires his undivided attention.

And of course, Loki kept making his returns, disguised as a fly, and tries to distract the brother, Brokkr, again, from his duties. But this time, Loki, bit Brokkr, on the eyelid. In fact, it hurt so much, Brokkr’s eyelid began to bleed. And it forced him to close his eyes, to wipe away the blood, and disrupted his meticulous task at hand.

When Sindri, his brother, returned he took the Mjölnir (aka “Lightning”) out of the forge and noticed the handle was shorter than expected! In fact, it could only be held with one hand!

Despite it being too short, the brothers, go to Loki to claim their dues. Loki returned with the final product and presented it to Thor. The Mjölnir was described as follows:

Then he gave the hammer to Thor, and said that Thor might smite as hard as he desired, whatsoever might be before him, and the hammer would not fail; and if he threw it at anything, it would never miss, and never fly so far as not to return to his hand; and if be desired, he might keep it in his sark, it was so small; but indeed it was a flaw in the hammer that the fore-haft was somewhat short. — The Prose Edda, translated by Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur (1916).

And that, is kinda how the story of the hammer, or Mjölnir, was created. As there are many renditions of this story as there are…eyes on Earth. Yes!

But did you hear the story about Thor, the snake and the giants? Yes….more giants please, did I hear that?

Okay, well here it is…Thor’s enemy was Jormungand, the giant sea serpent. Remember, in yesterday’s post? Loki created three monsters, and one of them was a giant snake that encompassed the Earth. Well this is it! You didn’t read it? Well, darn! Here it is!

http://www.masterscoachingstudio.com/happy-odins-day-or-woden-day-days-of-the-week/

Anyway, this sea serpent encompassed the entire world! Remember the nine worlds…one of them, was the one for humans. Midgard!

He was in a tiny boat on a fishing trip (who doesn’t love those!) and his hook managed to get caught on Jormungand! Think titanic pull or struggle! Or the book, ‘The old man and the sea!’ or ‘Moby Dick!’

Heck, here’s a pic to demonstrate:

So he tries to pull Jormungand out of the ocean, and is stopped by none other than who… a Giant! His giant companion cuts the string for fear for both their lives. But wait!

Another version, says Thor attempted to smash his mighty hammer on the snake’s head. But missed again. And according to Hymiskvida (bless you) he failed to kill him and sent him back into the sea, where his line snapped. Thor and Hymir (his giant friend,) returned back to the giants home with only…two measly whales. Tsk, tsk… but he fought the snake at another battle!

It’s funny how all these giants were fought by the gods, another tale of Thor and giants but won’t get that here. But Thor himself, was a giant. Odin, his father, was a half-giant, and his mother, named Jörd EARTH, well come on… she is of giant ancestry!

I guess there are all types of giants around, as there are people. You get what you focus on. Multi-faceted beings, and giants, we are!

Here we have this goat driven, chariot of a god, Thor slaying giants!

I think we can deduce, with any mythology…that…these are merely symbols, used as an expression, for the ‘invisible’ world – the non-physical world, to be immortalized, made visible, within our realm or physical reality.

Or as they say, “As above, so below?”

Like the cosmos expressing itself, one after the other, theme after theme, pattern after pattern? As we enter the years of GREAT EXPANSION, TRANSFORMATION and the RETURN OF THE GIANTS within us ALL!

Anyway, maybe the next time you feel thunder, you might ponder upon Mighty Thor and his thunder hammer! And how he protects over the kingdom of humans…from Giants! Knowing, he too, was one! I guess, you are your own enemy? One would say, and how do you SLAY your snakes, or doubt, or thoughts?

I say…..

SLAY the BEAST within!

And no longer let it slumber, nor reside, within you.

Tell it, you no longer live here!

And now for tomorrow’s post. (OMG, OMG, OMG…FREAKING OUT!!!!)

FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!! or VENUS!

The final act, of this 7 day series.

Thanks for playing everyone!!!!

Love,

Pam
